Plough Gallery proudly introduces work by ceramic artists Ben Carter and Mark Knott for a new exhibition of their functional, vibrant and generous pottery.
Both artists address the surfaces of their works with bold mark making, and color.
Ben Carter states that his work “focuses heavily on the Silk Road traditions where Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cultures were influenced by Chinese porcelain.” These bright, elegant and utilitarian pieces feel fresh and exciting as spring approaches.
Mark Knott patterns his creations in the traditionally classic American approach to form and function, while taking liberties with his surfaces and firing techniques speaking to his love of the ocean, boats, and a sense of continuous movement.
Ben Carter makes his work using rich earthenware clay, slips and underglazes and fires his work in electric kilns.
Mark Knott uses a blend of clay he created and fires them in an atmospheric soda kiln environment that enhances his glazes and the raw clay body.
