"Square The Circle"

Picture
Eighth grade art class introduced me to art and I haven't been the same since. I went on to graduate from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Studio Art, focused on printmaking. Post college and lacking access to a printmaking studio, I began exploring textiles with a particular interest in dyeing and patterning fabric.
Initially, that interest manifested in art quilts and opportunities to exhibit its well as inclusion in various publications, but eventually, I felt drawn to making more functional textiles as well as fabric design.
I designed fabric for Moda and Robert Kaufman Fabrics, taught and lectured across the country and online, wrote two books, Color Your Cloth: A Quilter's Guide to Dyeing and Patterning Fabric and Fresh Quilting: Fearless Color, Design, and Inspiration, and contributed projects to numerous books and magazines. Additionally I opened an online store where I sell my hand dyed and patterned fabrics.
In the past two years, l've returned to my roots as a textile artist. I've married my knowledge of dye and patterning processes, my love of collage, and a free-form approach to construction to create a collection of pieces I call "Textile Paintings". This new work is about combining disparate parts. It seeks to create cohesion from a from a variety of bits, to stitch together a whole that tells a single tale, even if I'm the only one who can read it.
