Open MON, WED, FRI, SAT 10 AM - 6 PM
Be Still is from two points of focus. Conceptually I am exploring the creative process as an act of meditation. Being deliberately quiet and focusing on the present moment while I painted instead of my usual, blasting music to the point of escapism. I have been working from still life and arranging my belongings instead of creating from memory and the internet. After a year of change and constant motion, it was a beautiful challenge to be still.
The next point of focus was compositional. I continue my exploration of the still life while re-introducing aspects from my abstract work. Both styles of painting are important to me, and I am always striving to find a balance between the two. I used a painting within a painting approach to evoke a feeling of the images swirling in our minds at any given moment, like a still shot of a memory. ~Kathleen Jones

Artist Statement
I make art as a way to process and preserve my life experiences in the visual way that my mind sees them. I notice visual elements in my surroundings and start to form relationships in my mind. Compositions begin to form and attach themselves to those memories . I aim to create compositions that feel familiar to the viewer while still exciting and new, almost as if they know the work from a previous life but can’t quite pinpoint it. I love using colors, objects, and patterns that I see in life with traditional motifs like still life to weave a story that is both personal to me and relatable to the viewer.

Her compositions are comprised of objects, patterns, and colors pulled straight from the places she spends time, both past and present. Her paintings aim to evoke a strong feeling of nostalgia for a specific time or place in her life as well as a generalized familiarity for the viewer.
