The PloughAIR Artists-in-Residence Program was established in 2017. The program provides early career, self-directed artists time, space and support to experiment and develop a new body of work in a creative supportive community environment. The program encourages early career artists who embrace community and enjoy working in a team environment to apply.
Each year, one artist is selected to participate in the program. Artists are given a private well lit studio with climate control, a basic work table, shelving and sink. Professional development opportunities are made available though funding and networking sources. At the conclusion of the program, the resident exhibits their work in Plough Gallery and have opportunities to sell their work through the Plough Gallery Online Store.

Isaac Wright, Current PloughAIR Resident Artist
Much of my work is rooted in an appreciation for the striking visuals of a southern landscape. Rather than a simple depiction, my aim is to deconstruct the cultural significance of imagery I depict. Barns, churches, and everyday objects are repeated throughout my work. These subjects are utilitarian, but often their aesthetic origin is under appreciated because of their function. Therefore, the goal of my art is to elevate the banal into the beautiful.
I consider myself an interdisciplinary artist, as I enjoy studying and working in Ceramics, Printmaking, Drawing, & Painting. I aim to bring traditional and contemporary techniques from multiple mediums together in order to capitalize on the strengths of each. Bold values and textured surfaces are prominent throughout my work, and I rely heavily on experimentation. Some works are heavily abstracted, while others are realistically replicated. This is the catalyst for growth in my work, because I can challenge myself to think differently every time I start something new. It’s a process of discovery by which I can reap the greatest reward.

Sarah Moore, PloughAIR Artist-In-Residence from August 2019 to April 2020
"After graduation I struggled, as many artists do, to find a space to make the art I am passionate about. Settling into my own studio at Plough Gallery has been such a blessing. The freedom and space I was given to work independently has allowed me to push myself, and my body of work, to exciting new places. It both humbles and amazes me to look back at my undergrad work and see how much I have grown my skills and confidence in a relatively short period of time. Feedback from Mark and Glenn reassures me in my efforts and challenges me to keep exploring and taking risks. I currently make functional pottery where my forms serves as a canvas for the type of whimsical, lighthearted imagery that makes my heart happy. As I go forward I plan to use my time at Plough Gallery to hone my style and create a body of work I can use to apply to graduate schools."

"I am humbled and honored to be Plough Gallery's first Artist in Residence. For the past year and a half, I have worked with artists to tell their stories and share their experience as an artist in a rural community. These are people I admire and respect for honing their craft and sharing it. Now, I will be one of them. As a resident at Plough Gallery, I have been given the time, space, and encouragement to create. And that's exactly what I will do. I can't wait to share with the community my passion for self-expression, critical examination, and arts accessibility." -- Shelby Nicole Evans
